Virginia and the Mid Atlantic are blessed with great weather and lovely colors for the fall. Indian summers are frequent and an outdoor space for your wedding service and reception gives guests the ability to roam, enjoying the grounds, and the venue while celebrating your special day.
As a designer, I love venues with nooks and crannies. Guests have fun while they explore and I can create movement from one space to another keeping things lively throughout the reception. Place a bar on the patio. Use a more formal room for the cake. Spread food and action stations about for guests to enjoy.
Nestled in downtown Richmond you find a gem in the Valentine Museum, offering both indoor and outdoor spaces. Indoor reception spaces offer a soft neutral palette, wood floors and contemporary chandeliers. Moving to the exterior spaces, the Wickham House Portico is perfect for a wedding service that spills into the Valentine garden where a tented event can accommodate 150 reception guests.
At the Wilton House in Richmond, enjoy a terraced lawn that leads guests with brick pathways to a lovely outdoor space at the edge of the river to conduct the wedding service. At the river’s edge, consider traditional pergolas or a variety of arches to dress the service area and define the space. One principle of design that I adhere to is: design for the environment. The terraces of Wilton House naturally divide the spaces for the service, dinner and reception. At the conclusion of the wedding service, the natural contours of the terraced lawn transition guest to refreshments and festivities.
For fall foliage, the Blue Ridge Mountains and the area around Charlottesville Virginia are magnificent. Pippin Hill Farm and Winery offers 2 Ceremony Sites featuring manicured lawns and stunning views. The veranda and terrace are perfect for cocktails and seated meals may be taken in the spacious granary with two-story vaulted ceiling.
We are fortunate in the mid Atlantic region to have so many wonderful spaces for celebration including numerous historic sites, the mountains, rivers, Chesapeake Bay, oceanfront and more. Be adventurous. Drive down the small roads. I love remote sites. For 25 years, Ampa Events has provided solutions in remote and challenging sites while designing dreams.
