Meeting Planner/Administrative Assistant

Technical Director - Events

Ampa Events, an event production company and scene shop,  is seeking a full-time, year-round, technical director to work in our Richmond, VA office.  Candidate will provide leadership to a team of installers and stage hands and will oversee the installation of all scenic elements and custom designs as well as all rigging/carpentry needs as required for client orders.

 

A successful candidate will have a diverse skill set with multiple theatrical skills including carpentry, lighting, AV, rigging, as well as leadership skill.  The ability to wear multiple hats and change gears smoothly as operations require is essential.  Candidates are expected to work a minimum 45 work week and must be able to work a flexible schedule, including frequent nights and weekends to accommodate our event schedule.  Our busy season requires additional work hours beyond the typical 45 hour work week and encompasses the months of April-June and October-December.

 

Ideal candidate will have 3-5 years experience in technical theatre.  MFA in technical direction a plus but not mandatory.

 

Essential duties and responsibilities:

 

1. Facilitate efficient use of staff and materials as needed for event scheduling and other tasks.

2. Effectively communicate work assignments and expectations to installation and scenic department team.

3. Lead and participate in preproduction review process – maintain effective communication with designer, artistic director, and production manager to ensure smooth development and installation of all set designs and working within client-mandated budget and time constraints.

4. Develop budget estimates and staff planning as needed, including long term planning, research, and pricing.

5. Oversee and participate as required in the technical design, engineering, drafting, and construction of all scenery.  Create and maintain technical drawings as required to meet client needs.

6. Oversee load-in and strike of each set.  Set up and operate as appropriate, scenery, lighting, general av systems, and other equipment to meet client needs.  Lead by example and enforce safe rigging and installation practices.

7. Ensure staff compliance with safety standards and standard operating procedures to facilitate safe and effective use of sets, scenery, and support gear.

8. Manage the organization and maintenance of Ampa scenery stock and equipment.

9. Train and develop staff on all aspects of job responsibilities.

 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

 

1. 3-5 years experience in technical theatre.  MFA in Technical Direction is desired but not required.

2. Experience with Autocad and/or Vectorworks or other CAD programs.

3. Well rounded technical and fabrication skills, including welding, rigging, carpentry, lighting, and AV.

4. Excellent interpersonal communication skills - good with people and able to interact positively with clients on site.

5. Strong organizational management skills that include planning in advance for success.

6. Experience in creating and monitoring material and labor budgets.

7. Ability to work within tight deadlines and budgets and put forth the number of hours to achieve goals.

8. Positive attitude and eager to learn and grow with the company.

9. Ability to lead a crew of inexperienced technicians safely and effectively.

Operations Manager - Senior Level Events

Ampa Events, an event production company and scene shop,  is seeking a full-time, year-round, senior level operations manager to work in our Richmond, VA office.  Candidate will provide leadership as a Senior Production Manager with the execution of events and will lead our operations team and efficiently manage the general operations of our company as we position for future growth.

 

A successful candidate will have a diverse skill set with multiple theatrical skills including Carpentry, Lighting, AV, Rigging, as well as HR skill.  The ability to wear multiple hats and change gears smoothly as operations require is essential.  Candidates must be able to work a flexible schedule, including frequent nights and weekends to accommodate our event schedule.  Our busy season typically encompasses the months of April-June and October-December.

 

Ideal candidate will have 5-10 years experience in theatre, events, catering, or related hospitality industries.  If you have held management positions with similar job titles such as:  Technical Director, Director of Operations, Creative Director, AV Manager, or Stage Manager and have a diverse skill set, you may be well-suited for this position.

 

Responsibilities

 

1. Facilitate efficient use of staff and materials as needed for event schedule and other tasks.

2. Lead and participate in preproduction review process - oversee preproduction planning and anticipating production needs.

4. Actively oversee event production and manage event crew to execute on-time installations.

5. Lead inventory efforts; assist and work with inventory associates to effectively track and maintain a 30,000 sq. ft. warehouse.

6. Set up and operate general AV systems as needed.

7. Develop standard operating procedures as appropriate

8. Lead by example and ensure staff compliance with safety standards and standard operating procedures to facilitate safe and effective use of sets, scenery, and support gear.

9. Train and develop staff on all aspects of job responsibilities.

Rental Manager, Event Sales

Senior Production Manager

Job Description:
